Objectifs et capacités de apprenant.es

Learners are required to complete 30 hours engaged in service learning during the semester. The learner is expected to demonstrate the following:

  • Professional demeanor in behavior; appearance; and oral, written, and electronic communication.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply self-awareness and self-regulation to manage the influence of personal biases and values in collaborating with diverse clients and constituencies.
  • Identify social policy and demonstrate the ability to assess how social welfare and economic policies impact the delivery and access to social services.


Seeking service-learning opportunities where students can apply classroom learning through meaningful community service. Students have developed applicable knowledge in an introduction to social work as a profession. We seek experiential learning opportunities in social services programs from the public or nonprofit sectors as well as quasi-governmental/public with specific emphasis on social enterprise strategies.

Résultats et livrables attendus

Students are expected to maintain a Volunteer Experience Journal designed to help integrate the knowledge they gain in class with their actual experience and to keep track of volunteer hours and activities performed. 

  • Learners must show proof of attendance/participation by means of 1) registration confirmation and 2) half-page double-spaced summary of event/volunteer service performed.
  • Learners provide proof of volunteering by having an employee or volunteer supervisor verification including 1) date of volunteer service, 2) start time, 3) end time, 4) their name, contact information and job title.

Upon completion of the project, students will complete a 5–10-minute class presentation describing the agency or organization, explaining their volunteer work, and sharing a personal reflection about the experience.
