Objectifs et capacités de apprenant.es

The University of Memphis invites industry partners to collaborate with our Pre-Calculus students to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Our students, who are revisiting high school algebra, trigonometry, and analytic geometry in a fast-paced, intensive course, are equipped to tackle complex mathematical problems as they prepare for college-level calculus. Through this collaboration, students aim to strengthen their skills in algebraic notation, solving equations, graphing functions, and applying trigonometric identities.

Employers engaging in this experience must maintain regular communication with the students, provide necessary information and guidance, be virtually present during the final presentation, and offer constructive and professional feedback through the Riipen platform.

Exemples de projets

Ideal projects for this experience should align with the Pre-Calculus curriculum, challenging students to apply their mathematical knowledge to practical, real-world problems.

  1. Optimization of Resource Allocation Using Algebraic Models: Develop and analyze algebraic models to optimize the allocation of resources in a small business or non-profit organization.
  2. Learning Techniques: Identify the best testing techniques for assessing what concepts need to be strengthen to provide a thorough understanding the course content.
  3. Graphical Analysis of Business Data: Utilize functions and graphs to analyze and interpret business data, identifying trends and making data-driven recommendations.
  4. Designing Efficient Trigonometric Solutions for Engineering Problems: Apply trigonometric identities and equations to solve practical engineering problems, such as determining the optimal angles and dimensions in construction projects.
  5. Exponential Growth Models in Biology: Develop and analyze exponential growth models to understand population dynamics or the spread of diseases in biological systems.
  6. Logarithmic Functions in Sound Engineering: Use logarithmic functions to model and solve problems in sound engineering, such as optimizing acoustics in a concert hall.
  7. Hydrogen fuel cell
  8. Mathematical geometry(trig)
